SSD behavior depends on the operating system, controller, flash translation layer, encryption, garbage collection, and what happened after deletion or failure.

• Do not format or reinstall onto the same SSD if the data matters.
• Do not copy large new files onto the affected SSD.
• Use versioned backups and an offsite or separate copy.
